पवित्रा, पुत्रदा और पापनाशिनी एकादशी व्रत : Wed, 26 Aug 2015

Shravan Pavitra - Putrada EkadashiWednesday, 26 August 2015 श्रावण शुक्लकी एकादशी पवित्रा, पुत्रदा और पापनाशिनी होती है। इस व्रतसे पापोंका नाश और पुत्रादिकी प्राप्ति होती है।

संकल्प  -
‘मम समस्तदुरितक्षयपूर्वकं श्रीपरमेश्वरप्रीत्यर्थं श्रावणशुक्लैकादशीव्रतमहं करिष्ये ।'
यह संकल्प करके भक्तिभाव और विधानसहित भगवान्‌का पूजन करे।

श्रावण शुक्लकी एकादशीको भगवान्‌को पवित्रक अर्पण किया जाता है ।

यधपि साधारण रुपमें बाजारसे लाये हुए रेशम या सुत्रके पवित्रक उपयोगमें आते हैं, किंन्तु शास्त्रमें इनका पृथक्‌ विधान है।

The month of Shravan is the fifth month of the Hindu calender beginning from Chaitra, and is the most auspicious month of the Chaturmas. On Purnima or fullmoon day, or during the course of the month the star 'Shravan' rules the sky, hence the month is called Shavan. This month is spread out with innumerably religious festivals and ceremonies and almost all the days of this month are auspicious.

श्रावण मासमें आशुतोष भगवान्‌ शंकरकी पूजाका विशेष महत्व है। जो प्रतिदिन पूजन न कर सकें उन्हें सोमवारको शिवपूजा अवश्य करनी चाहिये और व्रत रखना चाहिये। सोमवार भगवान्‌ शंकरका प्रिय दिन है, अत: सोमवारको शिवाराधन करना चाहिये।

श्रावणमें पार्थिव शिवपूजाका विशेष महत्व है। अत: प्रतिदिन अथवा प्रति सोमवार तथा प्रदोषको शिवपूजा या पार्थिव शिवपूजा अवश्य करनी चाहिये।

SHRAVANI PURNIMA : Upakarmam and Raksha Mantra

Shravani Purnima Upakarmam – Sat,  29 August 2015 is an important Hindu festival. Hindus wear a new holy thread and offer libations of water to the ancient Rishis on this day. Recitation of the Vedas on this great day is highly beneficial. This festival is also known as Upakarmam, and is specially sacred to the Brahmins, who have been invested with the sacred thread. When the Brahmin boy is invested with this holy thread, symbolically his third eye, or the eye of wisdom, is opened.

Jagannath Puri Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival)

The most splendid of the innumerable festivals celebrated round the year in the holy city of Puri, the Ratha Yatra is the grand culmination of a series of celebrations spread over the summer and the monsoon months.

Akshaya Trutiya tithi marks the beginning of the construction of the Rathas (chariots) for the ceremonial journey and sojourn of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra at the Gundicha Temple for a week.

On the full-moon day of the month of Jyestha (May-June) in the Snana Yatra, the Bathing Festival, when the three deities move in colourful processions to a platform in the outer enclosure of the temple, the Snana Vedi, the bathing platform, where they bath with one hundred and eight pitchers of perfumed water drawn from a temple well once a year. After the ritual bath, the deities assume the special elephant form, recalling the legend of the Lord's affection for a devotee, whom He proved that he was in fact another manifestation of Lord Ganesha.

The Grand Chariots of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra & Subhadra

Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2015 : Sat, 18 July The three Chariots of Balabhadra,Subhadra and Jagannath are constructed each year with Sal wood, customarily brought from the exprincely State of Dasapalla,by a specialist team of carpenters who have hereditary rights for this. 150 carpenters work for a two-month period on building the three huge chariots – one for each of the three deities. 20 sculptors then create the intricate wood carvings which decorate the chariots. The chariots are painted in bright colours and decorated with appliqué work.

Lord Jagannath's Chariot is called Nandighosa. It is forty-five feet square at the wheel level. It has sixteen wheels,each of seven feet diameter, and is decked with red and yellow coverings of cloth.

The Chariot of Lord Balabhadra is called the Taladhwaja, has fourteen wheels, each of seven feet diameter, and is covered with red and blue cloth. Its height is forty-four feet.

Jagannath is a sanskrit name used to describe a deity form of Krishna. The term nath means master and jagat means universe.

The Jagannath Temple in Puri, Orissa, is dedicated to Him. It is one of the four Holy 'Dhamas' (holy seats) of India including temples at Rameshwaram, Dwaraka, and Badrinath.
