Hartalika Teej falls on the third day of the first fortnight of the month of 'Bhadra'. It is a three-day festival which is celebrated by women in honor of Parvati Ma. On this day, womenfolk keep fast for long and conjugal life of their husband. Hartalika Teej fast proceeds without even drinking a drop of water. By rigorous fasting and praying to Goddess Parvati on Hartalika Teej, married women are blessed with healthy life of their husband while the unmarried girls are said to be blessed by a husband like Lord Shiva.
Haritalika Teej is basically celebrated in north Indian states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.

It is believed that on this auspicious day, Goddess Parvati was accepted by Lord Shiva.

As per the ancient story, Mata Parvati was in love with Shiva, but he was an ascetic and was not aware about her. In order to impress him, the goddess worshipped for many years in the Himalyas. Finally, Lord Shiva noticed Goddess Parvati and realized her love and devotion, and they got married. Since then, the goddess is being worshipped as ‘Hartalika’ and ‘Teej Mata’ by the Indian ladies.
